Washington, DC — Following the mass shooting yesterday at a FedEx facility in Indianapolis, Indiana that left eight victims dead and several others wounded before the shooter took his own life, Violence Policy Center (VPC) Executive Director Josh Sugarmann issued the following statement:
“In the past five weeks we’ve witnessed a shooting at a supermarket in Boulder, Colorado leaving 10 dead, an attack on a series of spas in Atlanta, Georgia leaving eight dead, and a workplace shooting in Orange, California leaving four dead. Now, we bear witness to another horrific public mass shooting: a murder-suicide at a FedEx facility leaving eight victims dead before the shooter took his own life. This is insanity. The gun industry continues to design, manufacture, and market increasingly lethal weapons while the American public pays the price in unspeakable death, injury, and long-lasting trauma. Our nation is being held hostage by the gun industry. Until gunmakers are held fully accountable for the direct role they play in these massacres, communities across the nation will continue to live in fear of the next horrendous attack.”
